HVAC Equipment Test

HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) are very often incorrectly oversized which causes the system to cycle on and off frequently, causing less comfort and inefficiency.  Exhaust ventilation is a particularly important health and safety concern in homes.  Proper mechanical ventilation is used to remove moisture, air pollution, or unwanted heat.


Replacing your existing furnace (heater) with a high-efficiency furnace can help save energy.  After air sealing and properly installing insulation, you can save money by reducing the size of your furnace.  The same holds true for the A/C system.  After air sealing and properly installing insulation, you can reduce the size of your A/C system and ducts to make your house more comfortable and energy efficient.


The components depicted in the picture to the left will be checked using state of the art diagnostic tools such as a combustion analyzer, duct blaster, and gas leak detector.  The coils and refrigerant lines will be checked to ensure their integrity, cleanliness and proper insulation.  Then, the system and air flow will be checked and calculated for proper sizing and rate of air exchange.

Heating and Cooling - Heat Pump

For climates with moderate heating and cooling needs, like here in California, heat pumps offer an energy-efficient alternative to gas furnaces and air conditioners.  Like your refrigerator, heat pumps use electricity to move heat from a cool space to a warm space, making the cool space cooler and the warm space warmer.  During the heating season, heat pumps move heat from the cool outdoors into your house to keep it warm and during the cooling season, heat pumps move heat from your house into the warm outdoors, keeping your house nice and cool.  Because they move heat rather than generate heat, heat pumps can provide up to 4 times the amount of energy they consume!


The beauty of this new technology is the high-efficiency outdoor coil which provides exceptional heat transfer and low air resistance for high-efficiency operation that can drastically lower your cooling bills.


Heat pumps come in single- or two- stage.  A two-stage unit is better than a single stage because it maintains precise temperatures while keeping energy costs and sound levels at a minimum.  The two stages of operation are:  high for hot summer days and low for milder days.  Since the low setting is adequate to meet household cooling demands 80% of the time, the two-stage unit runs more efficiently and produces more even temperatures, compared to conventional single-stage systems.  Two-stage heating and cooling cycles also translate to quieter, more efficient operation and enhanced humidity control.
